Former President Muhammadu Buhari has lauded the improvements in Nigeria’s economy and security during his eight-year administration, emphasizing that his leadership brought significant progress compared to the challenges inherited in 2015.
During a meeting with members of the Katsina State Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists at his home in Daura, Buhari reflected on the numerous hurdles his administration faced, particularly in addressing terrorism and a struggling economy. He noted that when he took office, Nigeria was grappling with severe security threats from insurgent groups and widespread economic instability.
Buhari remarked, “Nigeria’s security and economy improved significantly under my administration compared to what we met in 2015.” He highlighted key achievements, including enhanced military operations against Boko Haram and other terrorist organizations, which he believes have led to a more secure environment for citizens.
In terms of economic reforms, Buhari pointed to initiatives aimed at diversifying the economy away from oil dependency, such as investments in agriculture and infrastructure. He stated, “We implemented policies that fostered agricultural growth, which not only increased food production but also generated jobs for many Nigerians.”
The former president expressed optimism about the future, asserting that the foundations laid during his tenure would continue to yield positive results. He stated, “I am confident that the progress we made will continue to benefit the country moving forward. Things will continue to improve in Nigeria.”
