The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Monday received 203 Nigerian returnees who were stranded in Libya, marking another effort to reintegrate vulnerable citizens repatriated from North Africa.
The returnees, comprising 50 men, 96 women, 29 children, and 28 infants, arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos aboard an Al Buraq Boeing chartered flight with registration number 5A-BAC at approximately 7:00 p.m.
According to a statement released Tuesday via NEMA’s official X handle, the operation was carried out in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and supported by several national agencies including the Nigeria Immigration Service, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, Department of State Services, Port Health Services, and the Nigeria Police Force.
Two medical cases were recorded upon arrival, and the patients were immediately transferred to New Ikeja Hospitals for treatment. Following mandatory profiling and biometric registration, the returnees were relocated to the Igando Internally Displaced Persons Resettlement Centre for the next phase of their reintegration programme.
