A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted the Federal Government’s request for witnesses in the terrorism trial of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, to testify behind a screen.

The decision was made on Tuesday by Justice James Omotosho following an ex-parte application filed by government counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), who argued that the measure was necessary to protect the witnesses’ identities due to the sensitive nature of the case.

Kanu is facing a seven-count charge related to terrorism, brought against him by the Federal Government. During the hearing, Awomolo urged the court to restrict public access to the witnesses’ identities to safeguard their security.

Kanu’s lead counsel, Kanu Agabi (SAN), did not object to the application but requested that the Federal Government reciprocate cooperation when Kanu’s bail application is heard.

Justice Omotosho approved the request, allowing the first prosecution witness, identified only as PWAAA, to begin giving evidence as the government formally opened its case.
