President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a cash reward of $100,000 (approximately ₦150 million) for each player of Nigeria’s female basketball team, D’Tigress, following their historic victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket.
The team, led by Coach Rena Wakama, clinched their fifth consecutive Afrobasket title after defeating Mali in the final held at the Palais des Sports de Treichville, Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. With this achievement, Nigeria remains unbeaten in the tournament for a decade.
At a reception held in their honour at the Aso Villa, Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Tinubu, also announced a $50,000 (₦75 million) reward for each coach and technical crew member. Additionally, all team members and officials were conferred with national honours of the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) and gifted a flat each.
