Nigeria kept their World Cup qualification hopes alive with a 2-0 victory over Rwanda in a crucial CAF Group C encounter on Friday, courtesy of a brace from Victor Osimhen.

The Napoli forward broke the deadlock in the 11th minute, finishing off a well-placed cross from Ademola Lookman to give the Super Eagles an early lead. He struck again in first-half stoppage time, doubling Nigeria’s advantage in the 45+3rd minute with a composed finish.

The match was fiercely contested, with Rwanda’s D. Bizimana receiving a yellow card in the 46th minute, while Nigeria’s Wilfred Ndidi was booked three minutes later. Rwanda saw 45 percent of the ball but struggled to create clear-cut chances, managing only two shots on target. In contrast, Nigeria looked sharper in attack, registering three shots on target and earning eight corner kicks.

The victory moves Nigeria to fourth place in Group C with six points from five matches, keeping them in contention for a World Cup spot. South Africa leads the group with ten points, followed by Benin with eight and Rwanda with seven.

With qualification still within reach, the Super Eagles will shift focus to their upcoming fixtures, hoping to climb further up the standings and secure a place in the next round.
