Senate President Godswill Akpabio is leading a high-level Nigerian delegation to the funeral of Pope Francis, scheduled for April 25, 2025, in Vatican City. This was announced by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu.
The delegation consists of five members, including Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and several prominent archbishops. Their mission is to deliver a letter of condolence from President Tinubu to the Vatican, expressing sympathy for the Pope’s passing.
Pope Francis died on April 21, 2025, at the age of 88, shortly after leading Easter celebrations. President Tinubu described him as a “humble servant of God” and a “tireless champion of the poor,” emphasizing the significance of his death during this sacred time for Christians worldwide.
