Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has urged Nigerians to reconsider their tendency to blame state governors for the country’s escalating economic hardships. In an interview with Radio France Internationale (RFI) Hausa, he pointed out that the Federal Government receives a substantial 52% of the monthly federation revenue, leaving state and local governments to share the remaining 48%.
Governor Radda argued that public anger often gets misdirected at governors and local officials, while the Federal Government controls the lion’s share of national resources. He questioned the effectiveness of the federal revenue-sharing formula, urging citizens to reflect on how the funds retained by the central government have been utilized over the years.
His remarks come amid increased scrutiny of state governments, especially following the removal of the fuel subsidy, which has intensified calls for accountability regarding rising allocations.
