The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, has approved the appointment of Dr. Micheal Ekpai Odey as the new chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC). This decision includes the appointment of six additional members and four professors to the commission.
The announcement was made in a Government Special Announcement issued by Prof. Ibibia Worika, Secretary to the Rivers State Government. All appointments took effect on April 7, 2025.
The newly appointed members are:
- Dr. Micheal Ekpai Odey (Chairman)
- Mr. Lezaasi Lenee Torbira (Member)
- Prof. Author Nwafor (Member)
- Prof. Godfrey Woke Mbgudiogha (Member)
- Prof. (Dame) Joyce Akaninwor (Member)
- Dr. (Mrs.) Olive A. Bruce (Member)
- Prof. Chidi Halliday (Member)
This change follows Ibas’s recent suspension of the heads of all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies in the state, including the previous RSIEC head, Justice Adolphus Enebeli (retd.).
The appointments are expected to enhance the electoral process in Rivers State, ensuring effective governance and oversight during upcoming elections.
