Pandemonium erupted in the Idi-Araba area of Lagos State on Thursday, April 3, 2025, when a grenade exploded, resulting in the death of a scavenger and injuring three others. The incident occurred on Taiwo Street, where the scavenger reportedly attempted to dismantle a military-grade grenade he had discovered among scrap materials. The explosion occurred around 1:30 p.m., prompting a swift response from the Lagos State Police Command and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, which was deployed to the scene to assess the situation and ensure safety.

The deceased, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, died instantly from the explosion, while the injured individuals were quickly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The police have initiated an investigation to determine how military explosives ended up in civilian hands and have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious items or activities.

Authorities have confirmed that preliminary investigations indicate the explosion was accidental, triggered during the scavenger’s attempt to cut open the grenade. The body of the deceased has been taken to a public morgue for autopsy.
