Senate President Godswill Akpabio has refuted allegations made by suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who claimed that he engaged former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello to orchestrate her assassination. In a statement issued through his media aide, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio described the accusation as “false and malicious.”
Akpoti-Uduaghan made the allegations during a recent address to her supporters, asserting that Akpabio sought Bello’s assistance to carry out the act in Kogi State. The state government has since dismissed her claims.
In response, Akpabio condemned the allegations as a smear campaign aimed at damaging his reputation and undermining the integrity of the Senate. He emphasized that such accusations are not only unfounded but also dangerous, potentially inciting public unrest.
“This outrageous accusation is a complete fabrication and a deeply irresponsible attempt to provoke public unrest,” he stated. He also pointed out that Akpoti-Uduaghan had previously made unsubstantiated claims of sexual harassment against him, which she seems to have abandoned.
Moreover, he addressed allegations made by former lawmaker Elisha Abbo, who blamed Akpabio for his removal from the National Assembly. Akpabio stated that he had no involvement in Abbo’s situation, which was determined by a court ruling.
Akpabio called for apologies and retractions from both Akpoti-Uduaghan and Abbo, warning that he may pursue legal action if they fail to comply. He urged the public to recognize these allegations as part of a coordinated smear campaign aimed at discrediting him and the Senate leadershi
