Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has accused political opponents of orchestrating a calculated campaign to destabilise his administration and pressure President Bola Tinubu into declaring a state of emergency in the state. Through his Chief Press Secretary, Kula Tersoo, Alia addressed the media in Makurdi on Wednesday, describing recent protests in Abuja including one by individuals claiming to be lawyers as “sponsored” and intended to spread misinformation.

Alia said these protests were part of a broader agenda driven by disgruntled elements determined to derail his government and return the state to a “discredited status quo.” He warned that these actors are manipulating public perception to create chaos for their personal gain.

He further urged the Nigerian Bar Association to investigate individuals who falsely posed as legal professionals during demonstrations, warning that such impersonation, if left unchecked, could erode the legal profession’s integrity.

Despite ongoing security concerns in the state, Alia assured that all arms of government are functioning effectively and that his administration is actively working to combat the activities of armed herders. He called on the media to avoid sensationalism and asked the public to remain vigilant and resist misleading narratives.
