In a dramatic turn of events at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa has been reinstated as Speaker, while Hon. Lasbat Mojisola Meranda, who briefly held the role, has stepped back into her previous position as Deputy Speaker.
The shake-up came just minutes after Meranda officially resigned as Speaker. In her resignation speech, she thanked her colleagues for their support, stating that her decision was made in the interest of restoring peace within the Assembly, which has been unsettled following Obasa’s earlier impeachment.
Following the leadership reset, several other principal officers, including the Majority Leader, Chief Whip, and their deputies, also tendered their resignations and were subsequently replaced.
