Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has allegedly reached out to his estranged political mentor, Nyesom Wike, in a dramatic bid for reconciliation.

PREMIUM TIMES gathered that Fubara allegedly visited Wike — now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory — at his Abuja residence on Friday, April 18. The meeting came on the heels of Fubara’s consultation with President Bola Tinubu in London, where efforts were made to resolve the prolonged political crisis that recently led to a state of emergency in Rivers State. The president had also ordered the suspension of Fubara and several other elected officials for six months amid the turmoil.

Sources close to the development said Fubara was allegedly accompanied by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and former Ogun Governor Olusegun Osoba. At the meeting, Fubara allegedly prostrated before Wike, held his feet, and repeatedly addressed him as “My Oga” in an emotional appeal for forgiveness.

Fubara was said to have remained at Wike’s residence until the early hours of Saturday, April 19. While specifics of their discussion remain undisclosed, insiders indicate that Wike allegedly directed Fubara to return to Rivers State and brief key supporters especially elder statesmen  on the real reasons behind their fallout.

When contacted, Wike’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, confirmed that the meeting took place but declined to provide further details. Fubara’s spokesperson, Nelson Chukwudi, also refused to comment, referring all inquiries to the Rivers State Commissioner for Information.
