The Federal High Court sitting in Makurdi, Benue State, has sentenced the Managing Director of Builderstech Solution Ltd, Agene Johnson Godwin, to 48 years’ imprisonment for his involvement in a major investment fraud.
Justice M.S. Abubakar delivered the judgment after finding Godwin guilty on an amended eight-count charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The court heard that Godwin defrauded over 5,000 unsuspecting investors of more than N500 million through fraudulent investment schemes operated under the company’s name.
Investigations revealed that the convict collected money from members of the public under false pretences, promising high and unrealistic returns on investments.
Justice Abubakar sentenced him to a cumulative 48-year jail term without the option of a fine, citing the seriousness of the offences and the wide scale of the fraud.
The EFCC reaffirmed its commitment to combating financial crimes and warned Nigerians to be cautious of investment schemes offering unusually high returns.
