The Bauchi State caucus of the All Progressives Congress has rejected moves to admit Governor Bala Mohammed into the party.
The decision was announced after a caucus meeting held in Abuja, where members said they unanimously opposed his possible entry.
The development follows reports that the governor was considering leaving the Peoples Democratic Party, with earlier indications pointing to the African Democratic Congress as his preferred destination.
Speaking after the meeting, caucus chairman Sama’ila Dahuwa said the group rejected the move over the governor’s past criticisms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC.
He noted that Mohammed had not withdrawn those statements or made any effort to reconcile with party members.
According to him, admitting the governor at this time could harm the party’s unity, credibility, and electoral chances in Bauchi State.
The caucus also faulted what it described as a lack of consultation with key stakeholders, insisting that due process must be followed in decisions of such importance.
Meanwhile, reports suggest the governor has slowed down on his planned defection and is currently consulting with political allies and stakeholders.
Within the PDP in Bauchi, a committee has also been set up to review the party’s political direction amid growing uncertainty over the governor’s next move.
