The National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on February 26, 2025, marked a significant moment for the party as members endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in the upcoming 2027 general elections. During the gathering, there was a palpable atmosphere of support, with chants of “no vacancy at Aso Rock” resonating throughout the venue.

However, the meeting was notable for the absence of key figures such as former President Muhammadu Buhari, former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and several former governors, including Rotimi Amaechi and Nasir El-Rufai. Their lack of attendance raised questions, given their importance as statutory members of the NEC.

President Tinubu expressed his gratitude for the backing from party leaders and emphasized the positive results of his administration’s reforms, particularly regarding security and declining food prices. He called for the creation of reconciliation committees to address grievances among party members.

In his report, APC national chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje highlighted the party’s financial challenges and advocated for a new national secretariat to better facilitate party operations. Overall, the NEC meeting was a crucial step in consolidating support for Tinubu’s re-election bid while also addressing internal dynamics within the party.
