The Zamfara State government has announced an immediate ban on all political gatherings, including rallies, in a bid to maintain peace and stability within the region. Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration implemented the ban following a recent political conflict in the Maru local government area, which resulted in loss of life and property damage.

Mustapha Jafaru Kaura, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Broadcast, Media and Public Affairs, emphasized that the decision was made to prevent any unrest that could arise from political activities. He reassured that the ban is temporary and not intended to suppress political expression but to address the urgent security concerns affecting the state.

In response to the ban, the opposition party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has criticized the government’s decision, asserting that their members are law-abiding individuals who pose no threat. Malam Yusuf Idris Gusau, the APC spokesperson in Zamfara, claimed that there is no legal basis for prohibiting political gatherings and suggested that the government’s actions stem from fear of recent APC activities.

The situation remains tense, with security agencies directed to enforce the ban strictly, leaving the political landscape in Zamfara uncertain as the government seeks to navigate ongoing security challenges.
