Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic death of Arise News anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu, describing it as a painful loss. Maduagwu, affectionately known as Sommie, died after reportedly jumping from her apartment balcony in Katampe, Abuja, in an attempt to escape suspected armed robbers.

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant, Wike emphasized that her passing is a significant loss not only to the Arise News family but also to the broader Nigerian media landscape. He expressed his condolences to Maduagwu’s family, friends, and colleagues, especially the Chairman of Arise News, Prince Nduka Obaigbena.

Wike assured that security agencies would conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances of her death. Preliminary reports indicate that Maduagwu was pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital shortly after the incident.

The minister extended his prayers for Maduagwu’s soul and urged the community to support her family during this difficult time.
