A communal clash in Jigawa State has resulted in the tragic deaths of nine individuals and left four others injured. The violence erupted on January 3, 2025, in the Miga Local Government Area, raising alarm over community safety and relations.

The conflict was sparked when a group, believed to be Fulani herders, allegedly broke into a shop in Gululu village, stealing hibiscus and other goods. This act incited local villagers, known as Hausawa, to pursue the suspects to a settlement in Yankunama village, located in the neighboring Jahun Local Government Area.

Upon confronting the Fulani, the villagers faced gunfire from bows and arrows, resulting in critical injuries to four individuals. In retaliation, the Hausawa community launched an attack, leading to further violence and the destruction of Fulani homes across Miga and Jahun LGAs.

The Jigawa State Police swiftly dispatched teams from both Miga and Jahun Divisions to the site of the conflict.

The police spokesperson confirmed that nine bodies were recovered and transported to local hospitals for identification. The police have stated that the situation is now stable, and an investigation is underway to bring those responsible to justice.

In response to the violence, a stakeholders meeting was held, attended by prominent local figures, including the Speaker of the state House of Assembly. The gathering focused on strategies to restore peace and prevent further escalation of hostilities between the communities involved.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing tensions in Jigawa State and the urgent need for effective dialogue and conflict resolution measures to maintain peace among its diverse communities.
