The Progressive Governors Forum, led by Hope Uzodimma, convened on Wednesday for a closed-door meeting at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja. The specific agenda for the meeting remains undisclosed.
Attendees included Governors Nasir Idris (Kebbi), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), Uba Sani (Kaduna), and Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), among others. However, Governors Dikko Radda (Katsina), Babagana Zulum (Borno), and Muhammad Yahaya (Gombe) were absent and represented by their deputies.
Members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), led by National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, also participated in the meeting. This gathering comes amid increasing political consultations within the ruling party in anticipation of its national convention scheduled for March.
Key topics included the ongoing electronic registration exercise and the organization of ward and local government congresses, along with other urgent national and party matters.
Imo State Governor Uzodimma briefed journalists afterward, reaffirming the Forum’s commitment to enhancing democratic practices within the party. He noted the significance of the electronic registration process in fortifying a data-driven approach.
The Forum issued a communique emphasizing the importance of internal democracy, transparent party structures, and accountability during congresses and conventions. The emphasis was also placed on unifying the party and fostering responsible leadership communication to boost public confidence in the APC’s democratic processes.
