A strong blast occurred early on Saturday, July 26, 2025, damaging an apartment building in the suburb of Sikies, Thessaloniki, Greece’s second-largest city. The explosion wounded two passersby and shattered windows in nearby buildings, causing significant disruption.
The blast affected the ground floor of the apartment complex, leaving gaping holes in the wall. Notably, the head of a prison officers’ union resides in the building, according to police reports.
The injured individuals, a young man and woman, were struck by shards of glass during the incident. Anti-terror police are currently investigating the explosion, which also damaged six parked cars in the vicinity.
This incident follows a previous explosion in May that involved a woman linked to robberies and was associated with a jailed bank robber, who had previously sent a parcel bomb to a court in Thessaloniki.
Authorities are working to determine the nature and cause of the blast, with further updates expected as the investigation progresses.
