Kabiru Tanimu Turaki has been elected as the new National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His victory was confirmed during the party’s national convention held at the Lekan Salami Stadium, where he secured 1,516 votes.

Turaki, a former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, expressed his gratitude to delegates from 17 states who participated in the election. His main opponent, Senator Yakubu Danmarke, received 275 votes.

In his acceptance speech, Turaki promised to lead a comprehensive reform agenda aimed at restoring internal democracy and unity within the party, while addressing long-standing grievances among members. He assured that the PDP would prioritize grassroots support and uphold democratic ideals.

The newly elected National Working Committee is expected to unveil an operational blueprint that will guide the party’s direction in the coming months. The convention marks a significant moment for the PDP as it aims to revitalize its leadership and strengthen its position in Nigerian politics.
