President Bola Tinubu has nominated Joseph Tegbe as Nigeria’s new Minister of Power, following the resignation of Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office ahead of the 2027 elections.
Tegbe, a native of Oyo State, brings over 35 years of experience across the public and private sectors, with a strong background in fiscal policy reform, institutional transformation and governance.
He is a former Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major reform initiatives across the continent, and has advised governments and private organisations on regulatory frameworks and investment structuring.
His experience within Nigeria’s troubled power sector is particularly notable — he has worked directly with key agencies including the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company on regulatory and institutional reform efforts.
At present, Tegbe serves as Director General of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he oversees bilateral development cooperation between Nigeria and China and coordinates engagements with public sector stakeholders on economic development objectives.
The presidency described his nomination as a strategic move to accelerate ongoing reforms in the power sector, improve grid stability and attract sustainable investment in line with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
His appointment is subject to Senate confirmation.
