The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has directed a comprehensive mental and psychological evaluation of all officers serving under the command as part of efforts to improve discipline and operational effectiveness.
Sanusi instructed the Command’s Medical Director, ACP Ifayase Olabanji Akinola, to work with the Police Counselling Unit to begin the exercise, which is expected to start with junior officers on May 4, 2026.
According to the police boss, the initiative is aimed at strengthening professionalism, promoting emotional stability, and enhancing decision-making among officers both on and off duty.
The directive was issued during a meeting with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and heads of tactical units, where Sanusi stressed the need for strict adherence to professional standards and respect for human rights.
He also warned against misconduct capable of bringing the Nigeria Police Force into disrepute, urging officers to conduct themselves responsibly at all times.
Members of the public were encouraged to remain law-abiding and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
In a related development, the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre announced that its electronic reporting portal is now fully operational, allowing citizens to report offences such as online fraud, identity theft, and cyberstalking.
Police authorities said the platform is designed to provide a secure and efficient channel for reporting cybercrime and reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding citizens both physically and online.
The public was also advised to report cases of police misconduct through appropriate channels, including the Provost Marshal and the Complaint Response Unit.
