President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, provided insight on Friday into why former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike was nominated into the Federal Executive Council (FEC) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking at a book launch marking the 57th birthday of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Port Harcourt, Akpabio described Wike as a diligent public officer who excels in any role he assumes. He stated, “Let me tell you why you were nominated into the FEC by President Tinubu, despite being an opposition politician. Your performance as a local government chairman, Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Government, Minister, and two-term governor earned you this position.”

He praised Wike for transforming Abuja into a model city worthy of the nation’s capital, noting, “In less than two years, you have turned Abuja into a huge construction site.”

Akpabio continued, “Today we gather to celebrate not just the years in your life, but the life in your years. We honor not just the duration of your life but the impact you have made in countless ways.”

He reflected on Wike’s birth during a tumultuous time in 1967, emphasizing that his resilience has shaped his character. “You have risen like an eagle, soaring above the challenges that beset us,” he remarked.

Akpabio acknowledged Wike’s leadership as a two-term governor and his visionary approach, saying, “Your dedication to uplifting communities has left an indelible mark on our nation’s history. The bridges you have constructed—both literally and figuratively—testify to your commitment to progress and unity.”

He commended Wike for his contributions to Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly in infrastructure, education, and healthcare. Additionally, Akpabio noted Wike’s passion for sports and his commitment to nurturing youth talent.

He thanked Wike’s family for their support, highlighting the role of his wife in his journey. “Let us not forget the steadfast support of your beloved wife, who has stood beside you through trials and triumphs,” he stated.

Concluding the celebration, Akpabio prayed for Wike on his 60th birthday, wishing him joy and continued success in his service to the nation. “Here’s to another year of making a difference, inspiring change, and, of course, sharing that signature smile that warms our hearts!”
