A palpable sense of unease gripped Yenagoa on Saturday as gunshots rang out during a highly anticipated rally organized by NEW Associates, a group aligned with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. The event, spearheaded by George Turnah, a key figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was underway when the unexpected gunfire caused panic among attendees.
As the sounds of gunfire echoed through the venue, many participants initially fled for safety, creating a chaotic scene. However, order was quickly restored, and the rally resumed shortly thereafter. Comrade Ebilade Ekerefe, the Secretary of NEW Associates in Bayelsa State, addressed the media following the incident, affirming the group’s commitment to continue with their planned activities despite the disruption. “We will not be deterred by this incident,” he stated firmly, rallying supporters to regroup and carry on with the event.
The rally, which aimed to showcase support for Wike and his initiatives, has drawn significant attention, and the resolve of NEW Associates to push forward demonstrates their determination in the face of adversity.
