Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has condemned the arrest of Omoyele Sowore by the Nigeria Police Force, calling it a “miscarriage of justice and an abuse of state power.” Obi expressed his deep concern over Sowore’s detention, which followed his voluntary appearance at the police.
In a statement, Obi highlighted the lack of clear charges against Sowore, questioning the motives behind his arrest. He emphasized that detaining someone who willingly cooperates with law enforcement undermines justice and due process.
Obi invoked the philosophy of Plato, stating that unjust actions by those in power corrupt the moral fabric of society. He urged the authorities to release Sowore or formally charge him, warning that failing to do so would further erode public trust in law enforcement.
He concluded with a call for equal application of the law, asserting that the rule of law should apply to all citizens, regardless of their political beliefs or affiliations.
