In a surprising turn of events, all security personnel assigned to Speaker Mojisola Meranda of the Lagos State House of Assembly have been withdrawn. Reports indicate that this decision was implemented early Thursday morning, leaving the Speaker without any official protection.
While the authority behind this withdrawal remains unclear, a source close to Meranda confirmed that she is now exposed and vulnerable. Concerns have been raised about her security status, especially as speculation grows regarding her potential resignation from the speakership.
This development coincides with interventions from prominent figures within the All Progressives Congress, including former governors Chief Bisi Akande and Aremo Olusegun Osoba. These influential leaders have been involved in discussions aimed at resolving ongoing tensions within the Assembly.
A mediation panel, which convened recently, is reportedly recommending that both Meranda and another member, Mudashiru Obasa, step down, suggesting that a new representative from Lagos West should assume leadership of the Assembly.
Meranda’s spokesperson, Ganzallo Victor, confirmed the withdrawal of all security aides but expressed confusion over the reasons behind the decision. Meanwhile, sources indicate that security aides for Obasa have been reinstated, highlighting the ongoing instability within the Assembly’s leadership.
