The House of Representatives has summoned key government officials, including the finance minister, Wale Edun, the budget minister, Abubakar Bagudu, and the Central Bank governor, Yemi Cardoso, over non-payment to contractors since 2024.
The investigation follows a motion highlighting the government’s failure to pay contractors for completed projects, despite budget allocations for the year. This delay has led to project abandonment, financial distress for contractors, and public dissatisfaction.
The House is concerned about the potential for protests, job losses, and disruptions in infrastructure development. A joint inquiry will be conducted, and the government is urged to clear outstanding debts and ensure future timely payments.
