The Plateau State Government has refuted ongoing rumors that Governor Caleb Mutfwang has defected to the Young Progressives Party (YPP). In a statement released on Friday, Dr. Gyang Bere, the Director of Press and Public Affairs at the Government House, labeled the claims as “a blatant lie, a shameless concoction peddled by desperate mischief makers” aimed at causing confusion among citizens.

The statement reaffirmed Governor Mutfwang’s dedication to his responsibilities, asserting that he has not changed party affiliation. Bere emphasized that if any changes occurred, they would be officially communicated to the public through verified channels.

The government urged supporters and residents of Plateau State to disregard the false claims and to stay focused on the governor’s development projects and community initiatives. “We urge supporters, well-wishers, and all patriotic citizens of Plateau State to disregard this falsehood in its entirety,” the statement added.

Rumors regarding Mutfwang’s alleged defection have circulated for months, with reactions mixed among members of the All Progressives Congress, some welcoming the supposed move while others dismissed it. However, Mutfwang, who was elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, reiterated on Friday that he remains committed to his party.
