The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of pursuing a “one-party totalitarian” agenda while demanding an immediate reversal of what it described as anti-people policies.

This position was contained in a communiqué issued at the PDP’s 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held Tuesday in Abuja, and read by the party’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum.

Damagum, flanked by members of the PDP’s National Working Committee, declared that the country was being plunged into hardship and insecurity due to the alleged negligence and corruption of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government.

“NEC condemns the worsening insecurity; the wanton killings, banditry, kidnapping, and acts of terrorism across the nation, emboldened by President Tinubu’s failure to uphold his constitutional duty to protect lives and property,” Damagum said.

He went on to decry the soaring cost of living, saying that recent policy decisions—such as fuel subsidy removal, increased electricity tariffs, and heavy taxation—had caused massive business closures, job losses, and deepening poverty.

The PDP also accused the government of policy inconsistency, budget padding, and large-scale diversion of public funds, which it claims have scared away investors and worsened infrastructural decay.

Highlighting concerns about the 2027 general elections, Damagum alleged a deliberate attempt by the Tinubu administration to suppress dissent and opposition.

“It is clear that this plot is borne out of APC’s mortal fear of inevitable defeat in 2027,” he said.

Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, echoed the concerns, accusing the APC-led Federal Government of using threats and exclusion to destabilize the opposition.

“Despite defections and political pressures, we remain united and committed to our democratic ideals,” Mohammed affirmed.

The PDP’s statement marks a fresh escalation in its confrontation with the ruling APC, as both parties prepare for the political battles leading up to 2027.
