Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South East have reaffirmed their support for Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the party. This position was declared during a meeting attended by prominent party leaders, including former Abia State Governor Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and several senators.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the stakeholders called on the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to adhere to a Supreme Court ruling that recognized Senator Anyanwu as the legitimate National Secretary. They urged the NWC and the public to dismiss a recent meeting allegedly convened by Chief Ali Odefa, labeling it as illegitimate and referencing court judgments that affirmed Odefa’s suspension and expulsion.
The leaders also demanded the immediate organization of congresses in Ebonyi and Anambra States, which currently lack valid State Working Committees. They expressed strong support for reconciliation efforts led by Senator Bukola Saraki, emphasizing the importance of unity for the party’s future success.
The communiqué stated, “We commend the leadership of the PDP for establishing the Dr. Bukola Saraki-led Reconciliation Committee. We reject any attempts to sabotage this effort.” They stressed that the Supreme Court ruling confirming Anyanwu’s position has been recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and warned that decisions made without his signature would be deemed invalid.
The stakeholders concluded by urging the Acting National Chairman and the NWC to uphold the party’s constitution and the Supreme Court’s verdict, reinforcing the importance of the rule of law within the PDP. Chief Chidiebere Egwu, the newly affirmed National Vice Chairman (South East), reiterated these positions, denouncing the Enugu meeting as null and void.
