The Labour Party has publicly rebuked the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) over what it describes as an attempt to undermine the party’s national leadership, headed by Barrister Julius Abure. This reaction follows a press conference held by Professor Theophilus Ndubaku, associated with the LP Transition Committee.

In a statement, National Publicity Secretary Obiora Ifoh accused Ndubaku and his colleagues of making fallacious claims aimed at damaging the party’s reputation. He asserted that forensic and police reports have exonerated the party’s leadership from any allegations of forgery, a fact he claims is known to Ndubaku and his associates.

Ifoh further questioned the NLC’s authority to establish a Political Commission, citing the laws that govern its operations. He noted that the NLC is currently pursuing alliances with other political parties in preparation for the 2027 elections, suggesting that Ndubaku’s group is out of touch with the political landscape.

The Labour Party also called on security agencies to investigate Ndubaku and his associates for potential fraudulent activities related to the sale of party tickets to governorship aspirants during past elections. Ifoh advised Ndubaku and his group to seek other employment opportunities, emphasizing that the Labour Party is committed to its principles and will not be hijacked for selfish interests.

This strong stance from the Labour Party reflects the ongoing tensions within the political landscape as the Anambra state governorship election approaches.
