The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has publicly condemned the state government’s inaction and silence after a recent explosion that shook Offa, the headquarters of Offa Local Government Area. In a statement issued in Ilorin by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the PDP expressed deep concern over the lack of communication and reassurance from Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration since the incident.
The PDP expressed sympathy for the residents of Offa, particularly Mufutau Gbadamosi, Esuwoye I, and the communities affected by the explosion. According to the party, while residents were scrambling for safety during the chaos, the governor was notably absent and failed to provide any official explanation or communication to ease public fears.
The statement criticized the state government for not sending officials to the scene, conducting security briefings, or offering any support to the traumatized residents. It highlighted the resulting atmosphere of panic and anxiety fueled by a lack of leadership and transparency.
The party argued that responsible governance would involve immediate action, including a visit to the affected area for assessment and a public briefing on the situation.
Widespread speculation and fear among the citizens have been exacerbated by the governor’s absence, which the PDP deemed “irresponsible, insensitive, and reckless,” especially during a festive season when citizens should feel safe and secure.
The PDP called on Governor AbdulRazaq to return urgently from his trip to Abuja, visit Offa, assess the impact of the explosion, and provide a detailed briefing on the matter to restore public confidence. They stressed the need for a joint security briefing to alleviate rising panic among the people.
