The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akoko-Edo Local Government has expressed its dismay over the December 27, 2024, invasion of the council secretariat in Igarra by what they termed suspected thugs from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement issued by Secretary Dennis Akande, the PDP condemned the act as a blatant display of lawlessness. Akande reported that a large group of thugs invaded the secretariat, forcing staff members to flee and disrupting the activities of the council chairman, Hon. Barr Tajudeen Alade Suleman, who was attending an official event in Benin City at the time.

“They broke into the Chairman’s office after damaging both access doors, ransacked the space, stole official documents and valuables, and then locked the door with a key they possessed,” Akande stated.

PDP Chairman Hon. Kayode Ogunnubi denounced the incident as unconstitutionally crude and barbaric, urging APC leaders to rein in their supporters. He noted that security agencies are already aware of the identities of the assailants and should take swift action to bring them to justice, emphasizing that the council chairman’s office is a public space, not a party headquarters.

The statement also called for PDP members to remain calm amid the provocation and to trust that security forces will conduct a thorough investigation.
