Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has asserted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) must focus on reinventing itself to maintain its national appeal amidst ongoing challenges. Speaking at the PDP Zonal Congress held in Enugu, Mbah emphasized the importance of the South East region as a bastion for the party.

During the congress, a new zonal executive was elected, with Chief Ali Odefa re-elected as the zonal chairman. Other key positions were filled, including Hon. James Ugwu as Zonal Secretary and Mrs. Regina Uchebo as Zonal Treasurer. Mbah expressed gratitude for the trust placed in the new leadership and urged unity among party members.

Mbah reminded attendees that elections should not be seen as personal triumphs but as a commitment to good governance and addressing the welfare of the people. He stated, “Democracy abhors excuses – no matter how plausible they sound,” stressing that the PDP must prioritize the needs of citizens in its policies and actions.

The governor called for solidarity within the party to restore its former glory in the South East. He noted that the PDP’s greatness lies in its capacity to adapt to the evolving political landscape while remaining committed to the welfare of the populace.

The congress was attended by notable figures, including the Deputy Governor of Enugu State and members of the PDP Board of Trustees, who echoed Mbah’s sentiments about the necessity of unity and effective governance to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Governor Mbah’s remarks highlight a strategic vision for the PDP as it seeks to strengthen its position in Nigerian politics by focusing on good governance, unity, and the needs of its constituents.
