The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed that it will proceed with its National Convention scheduled for November 15th and 16th in Ibadan, Oyo State. Ambassador Iliya Damagum, the National Chairman, stated this during the inauguration of the National Convention Committee at the party’s headquarters in Abuja.

Damagum dismissed opposition to the convention as the work of detractors, emphasizing that the PDP is robust and ready to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.

This announcement comes after a meeting among PDP members loyal to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, who proposed conditions for the convention to take place. The group, calling itself Eminent Leaders and Concerned Stakeholders, included former governors and party officials who reviewed the state of the party and insisted on maintaining the zoning arrangements established in 2021.

Their demands include conducting fresh and transparent congresses in Ebonyi and Anambra States and respecting the outcomes of previous congresses recognized by the court. They stressed that unity within the party is crucial for its future relevance and called for a convention based on transparency, fairness, and inclusivity.
