Peter Obi, former Labour Party presidential candidate, has officially submitted a proposal to serve a single four-year term if elected president in 2027. The proposal was presented to the opposition coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Senate President David Mark.

This was confirmed by the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr Yunusa Tanko, during a chieftaincy conferment ceremony in Pantami, Gombe State. Obi was honoured with the traditional titles of Sarki Maskan and Dan Maje Babba Pantanmi, along with a letter of commendation for his contributions to the community.

Tanko expressed confidence in the proposal, stating that Obi’s commitment to a single term reflects integrity and national focus. He argued that Obi believes four years is enough to achieve key reforms, including reviving the economy, fixing the power sector, and positioning Nigeria as an exporting nation.

He also noted that Obi’s growing acceptance in the North stems from his humanitarian efforts, including the provision of clean water, support for youth entrepreneurship, and aid to Almajiri schools.

Tanko described the traditional honour as a significant gesture, symbolising Obi’s rising national appeal and potential to unify the country ahead of the 2027 elections.
