Ebonyi Governor Francis Nwifuru has declared a Christmas bonus of ₦150,000 for every civil servant in the state for the upcoming festive season. He made this announcement during a church service at the Government House Chapel in Abakaliki.
The bonus reflects Nwifuru’s commitment to improving the welfare of civil servants, despite challenges with the state’s revenue over the past year. He also addressed concerns about the Vincent Agwu Nwankwo Flyover project, asserting its significance as a major infrastructural initiative for the state.
Nwifuru emphasized that the construction aims to enhance the state’s image and standing in terms of modern infrastructure. He stated, “We are doing this not because we have money, but because we want to leave a lasting mark in history.”
Earlier this year, Nwifuru increased the minimum wage for public servants to ₦90,000 as part of his ‘People’s Charter of Needs Agenda.’ This decision followed President Bola Tinubu’s enactment of a new minimum wage law in 2024, which raised the prior minimum from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000.
