President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dismissed allegations that Christians or Muslims are being deliberately targeted for killing in Nigeria, stating that the country is not facing any form of religious genocide.
The President said Nigeria’s security challenges are driven by a combination of historical grievances, economic pressures and criminal activities, rather than faith-based persecution.
Tinubu made the clarification on Friday in Abuja while declaring open the 8th Biennial Conference and Annual General Meeting of the Nasrul-Lahi-l-Fatih Society, NASFAT. The conference was held under the theme, “Building Resilience in a Changing World: The Role of Faith and Community.”
Represented at the event by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, the President said the nation is grappling with terrorism fueled largely by criminal networks and extremist elements.
He stressed that the Federal Government remains committed to addressing insecurity through coordinated efforts that tackle its root causes, including poverty, social exclusion and weak institutions.
