The 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army has issued a warning regarding the demolition of buildings on encroached land in Oghede and Iyanomo, located in Edo State’s Ovia North East local government area.
The army criticized the local duke, Osazebare Aghahowa, for disregarding previous agreements and continuing to sell military land to developers and hoteliers.
Capt. Polycarp Oteh, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, stated that the army legally acquired the land in 1966 and received a Certificate of Occupancy in 1994.
The statement emphasized the need for the community to stop encroaching on military land, as such actions threaten ongoing peace negotiations. Despite efforts for peaceful resolution, community leaders have reportedly violated agreements by selling army property, prompting the army to consider demolishing illegal structures.
The army reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and security in Edo State and warned against misinformation being spread by individuals with selfish interests.
