Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State has pledged ₦1 billion in relief support to victims of the recent flooding that devastated parts of Mokwa Local Government Area.
The governor made the announcement during an on-the-spot assessment of the affected areas, where he inspected damaged homes and met with displaced residents. He sympathized with the victims and urged communities to avoid building or settling near waterways to minimize the risk of future disasters.
Bago assured the public that all funds and materials donated—whether from the federal government, private individuals, agencies, or international donors—would be transparently and appropriately utilized.
He commended the efforts of individuals and organizations that have shown solidarity with those affected, adding that the state government is committed to resettling all impacted residents, whether directly or indirectly.
In a related advisory, the governor encouraged Islamic teachers in the area to maintain proper records of their students to ensure accountability and safety, especially during emergencies.
