A middle-aged man, identified as Tartor Ayihe, has tragically taken his own life by ingesting an insecticide in Ayihe community, along the International Market in Makurdi, Benue State. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening and is believed to be connected to a crisis arising from the sale of a plot of land to three different individuals.

Sources indicate that the situation escalated when the buyers confronted Ayihe, leading to a meeting with community leaders to resolve the issue. During the meeting, Ayihe reportedly sought permission to step away briefly but instead went in search of the insecticide.

“While the meeting was going on, the deceased took permission to get something in the house, but he went to three different provision shops in search of the killer-insecticide,” a source revealed.

After failing to return, community members grew concerned. The chief sent people to check on him, only to discover his lifeless body at home, along with the empty insecticide bottle. Despite being rushed to an undisclosed hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Catherine Anene, spokesperson for the Benue Police Command, confirmed the incident, stating, “We got the report this morning (Thursday). Operatives have been sent there to find out what happened.”

This tragic event underscores the severe emotional and psychological toll that disputes can exert on individuals, highlighting the need for community support systems and conflict resolution mechanisms.
