The Labour Party’s Interim National Committee (INC) is raising alarms about alleged attempts by supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to infiltrate its structure. This claim was made by the party’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Toni Akeni, in a leaked memo expressing his frustrations over the party’s current state and threatening to resign if conditions do not improve.

Akeni accused an unnamed APC “mole” within the Labour Party of persuading the INC not to fund its publicity directorate. He also highlighted the failure of the interim leadership to conduct necessary congresses and a national convention, despite being given a 90-day mandate over a year ago.

In the memo, Akeni detailed his struggles, including relocating to Abuja without adequate financial support for his role. He criticized the party’s zero-budget policy for the publicity office, arguing that it undermines the party’s effectiveness and public trust.

The memo outlines a pressing need for action, as the party faces significant challenges heading into the 2027 elections. Akeni’s warnings indicate a deepening crisis within the Labour Party, as internal strife threatens its future viability.
