An employee of an investment company in Lagos State, Bello Samuel, has been arraigned before the Federal High Court in Lagos over the alleged diversion of about ₦90 million from the firm’s account for personal use.

Samuel was brought to court by the Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) on charges bordering on conspiracy and money laundering. Police authorities said the suspect, who worked in the company’s finance department, allegedly carried out the fraud through an insider scheme.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the PSFU spokesperson, Mr Ovie Ewhubare, the accused was alleged to have fraudulently converted company funds and laundered the proceeds through the bank accounts of friends and relatives in an attempt to conceal the source.

Investigators revealed that Samuel reportedly fled Lagos with members of his family after discovering that the fraud had been uncovered, cutting off communication to evade arrest. He was later apprehended in Oye-Ekiti Local Government Area of Ekiti State after investigations extended across several South-West states.

The Police Special Fraud Unit noted that while the suspect has been charged to court, investigations are still ongoing to arrest other individuals believed to be connected to the crime.

The unit also reaffirmed its commitment to combating financial offences and urged corporate organisations to strengthen internal control mechanisms to curb insider abuses.
