The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has stated that its 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, will not contest on its platform for the 2027 elections. This announcement was made by the NNPP National Chairman, Dr. Agbo Major, in a statement on Saturday.
Major emphasized that the NNPP platform is closed to Kwankwaso and his ally Buba Galadima, who had been expelled from the party for anti-party activities. He refuted claims by Galadima that Kwankwaso would run for presidency under the NNPP banner, asserting that the party will not support those who have betrayed its trust.
The NNPP chairman highlighted past issues, stating, “Kwankwaso led us into unnecessary litigation and changed our party logo to the Kwankwasiya logo in an attempt to hijack the leadership of the party.” He indicated that the party had moved on and would not entertain any further controversies involving Kwankwaso.
Major also pointed out that while Kwankwaso has the right to contest for any office, he should do so independently and without dragging the NNPP into his disputes with the current administration. He clarified that the party is open to new aspirants and is committed to a transparent selection process for its 2027 presidential candidate.
The statement concluded with a call for Nigerians to disregard any claims made by Kwankwaso and his group regarding the NNPP, reinforcing that the party believes in constructive criticism rather than personal attacks.
