Former Abia state Governor Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and former Enugu Governor Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi are among the nominees for ambassadorial positions put forward by the Federal Government.

Sources reveal that the nominees are currently undergoing security screenings as part of the standard vetting process, with their credentials submitted to relevant security agencies for background checks.

This nomination follows the recall of all Nigerian ambassadors nearly a year ago, raising concerns about the potential impact on the country’s diplomatic relations due to the lack of replacements.

One nominee, who requested to remain anonymous, confirmed their appointment, while the others have yet to make any official statements.

A source within the Presidency explained the delay in releasing the official list, stating, “They are currently undergoing security checks with the Department of State Services (DSS). Only those who pass these checks will be announced. The process is ongoing, and we anticipate releasing the final list before the end of the month.”
