Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has pledged unwavering commitment to restoring peace throughout the state, particularly beyond the six local government areas currently most affected by insecurity. Speaking in Makurdi on Democracy Day while addressing supporters rallying in solidarity with him and President Bola Tinubu, Governor Alia emphasized that the day should be marked as a moment of reflection.
He lamented the continued loss of innocent lives in the state, stressing that Benue is still in mourning. According to him, while hope remains alive, determination and persistent efforts are essential to defeat the forces sowing division and violence. He reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to achieve peace and expressed confidence that the challenge of insecurity will be overcome with President Tinubu’s support.
Governor Alia acknowledged the vital roles played by traditional rulers and religious leaders, noting their collaboration in the ongoing efforts to restore peace. However, he raised concerns over certain individuals, including some clergy members, whom he accused of inciting unrest through inflammatory rhetoric. He urged such figures to exercise caution and only speak on matters they fully understand, cautioning against the misuse of sacred platforms to spread misinformation.
Alia called on Nigerians to embrace unity and view the nation as a shared heritage, asserting that without Nigeria, there would be no infrastructure, economic activity, or social stability. He emphasized that the pain of the people is shared by the government and pledged continued commitment to protecting and defending the citizens.
Describing Democracy Day as a significant milestone, he encouraged citizens to adopt a hopeful and positive outlook for the sake of Benue and the nation at large.
In their remarks, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman in Benue, Mr. Benjamin Omale, commended both President Tinubu and Governor Alia for their transformative leadership. He called on Benue residents to support their re-election bids in 2027.
Additionally, the Chairman of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council, Mr. Aloysious Omaja, credited Governor Alia with revitalizing the state’s civil service and assured that workers would rally behind him and President Tinubu in the next election cycle.
