Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has urged the six newly elevated High Court judges to ensure the strict enforcement of the Criminal Justice System (CJL) against criminal elements. He emphasized his zero tolerance for any form of criminality within the state during their swearing-in ceremony at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Uyo.
Governor Eno stated that his mandate is to serve the people by upholding the rule of law and ensuring a safe environment for legitimate business pursuits. He expressed hope that the addition of more judges to the judicial system would facilitate the speedy trial of criminals and appropriate punishment in accordance with the law.
He assured the judiciary of continued partnership from the executive branch to maintain peace and security in the state, affirming that the judiciary is often regarded as the last hope of the common man. He expressed confidence that the new judges would dispense justice fairly and without bias.
Congratulating the newly inaugurated judges, who were recommended by the Nigerian Judiciary Council (NJC), Governor Eno noted that their elevation reflects their professional competence and significant contributions to the judiciary.
He also commended the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and the NJC for their support and recommendations, as well as the State Chief Judge, Justice Ekaette Obot, for fostering a spirit of collaboration.
The newly inaugurated judges include Umohandi, Mfon Winifred, Ekanem, Bassey James, Essien, Bassey Iwakaowo, Morrison, Comfort Henry, Ntekim, Edet Ekpo, and Eddie, Sharon Julius.
