The Nasarawa State Police have apprehended a gospel singer, Timilehin Ajayi, for allegedly murdering and dismembering his 24-year-old girlfriend, Salome Enejo, a member of the National Youth Service Corps, for suspected ritual purposes.
Police spokesperson Ramhan Nansel reported that Enejo, who was serving in Abuja, was brutally killed by Ajayi. The suspect was caught by churchgoers in Orozo, a community near the Federal Capital Territory, while carrying a bag containing Enejo’s severed head.
According to Caleb Umaru, the church’s Bible Study Teacher, a member noticed Ajayi behaving suspiciously by a river. After he threw a bag into the water, the member alerted others, leading them to confront him. Upon investigation, they found the severed head inside the bag.
Umaru recounted that Ajayi attempted to flee when confronted but was captured by community members with help from a motorcyclist who had previously transported him.
Nansel stated that police intervened just in time to protect Ajayi from a potentially violent mob. A subsequent search of his residence revealed two sacks containing the rest of Enejo’s dismembered body. Her parents have been notified and confirmed her identity.
Ajayi is currently receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained during his capture, and a thorough investigation is underway.
This incident follows a similar case in October 2023, when another individual was declared wanted in connection with the murder of his girlfriend in Lagos State.
